PPRH the First in Region to Offer Digital Mammography
Pikes Peak Regional Hospital (PPRH) offers state-of-the-art Digital Mammography services, one of the newest advances in diagnostic imaging. In fact PPRH was the first hospital in the region to offer Digital Mammography for its patients.
Mammograms help physicians diagnose masses or breast cancers as early as two years before they can be felt. The Hologic Lorad M-IV mammography unit at PPRH is designed to offer superior imaging, enhanced operating efficiency and maximum patient comfort. Because there’s no waiting for film to be developed, digital images are immediately available.
The technologist can evaluate the quality of the images as they’re taken. That means patients spend less time in the exam room and rarely need to return for repeat images due to under or over exposures. Additionally, the digital machine is fast, so patients spend less time in uncomfortable positions. Brightness, darkness, or contrast can be adjusted and sections of an image can be magnified after the mammogram is complete making it easier to see subtle differences between tissues. The ability to increase contrast when imaging dense tissue is particularly important, as dense breast tissue and malignant cells both appear to be white on a film mammogram.
Today’s digital system now in use at PPRH requires only seconds to record each image (as opposed to up to a minute with film). The images can be viewed within seconds of exposure and can be sent anywhere instantly. Management, archiving and recall of the images – stored on a computer or on a disk – is greatly simplified.
PPRH Offers the Mammo Pad
MammoPad breast cushions are soft foam pads that can help relieve the discomfort many women feel during a mammogram. The cushion is placed on the surface of the image detector, providing a softer, more comfortable mammogram. Since MammoPad breast cushions provide a warmer, softer, and more comfortable mammogram, women are generally more relaxed during the exam. This enables the technologist to get more breast tissue in the image. While the breast cushion provides comfort, it does not compromise the high level of image quality needed for a routine mammogram or require increased radiation dose during a mammogram.
Fast, Convenient Service/ACR Accredited
In addition to offering the highest quality digital mammography services, PPRH is able to offer patients easy scheduling and same day appointments. Patients in the Teller County region can access advanced services right here at home instead of spending countless hours at large impersonal centers out of the area. The PPRH Mammography program is also ACR Accredited which means patients will have the highest level of image quality and patient safety available.
